The Dots Transcription Project
The Transcription Projects series are conceptual poster sets about my favorite performers in rock and avantgarde music. The typography with the accompanying illustration more or less reflecting on the words of the songs function together as semi-booklet pages of the musicians’ compilation albums, lacking only the obligatory cover design (and the hard work of selecting more than 5–7 songs from the artists’ repertoire). Being one of my few definitive favorite bands, The Legendary Pink Dots has its musical references as much to psychedelic, as to dark and gothic genres, as well as roots both in experimental and ambient worlds, I have carefully chosen the illustrations’ themes, which resulted in two common notions: changing and movement. If anything, these two phrases fit all the songs of the group—which is a real big deal taking their huge discography into account. The graphics were created with pure blending mode techniques of repeated and mirrored layers of real photos about different objects. The chosen Teuton typeface of František Štorm reflects the industrially gloomy ether present on almost all Dots albums.
