Dead Soul

CD cover art and inlay design for a music compilation with singers died or gone mad before fourty. Digital media. Created as a private work on desktop PC in 2009.

In the fall of 2008 I started my studies on the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design, but I continued working on more (pseudo) CD covers. This time the concept was the aftermath of almost permanently listening to Joy Division throughout these years: how would a compilation of musicians died young look without the obligatory “Class of 27” members? The graphic theme of an abstract well—viewed from the top and bottom on the front and inlay covers respectively—was coded in Flash. The ChaletComprimé typeface—created by Paul van der Laan for a companion family of House Industries’ Chalet—used throughout the whole design is the one I used in several other projects too these years.
