The Signed Nature

Back in April 2012 I took part in a contest organized by Hungarian graphic designers. The subject of the tournament was an almost daily typographic duel of the same glyph illustrated/redesigned by both players. (You can see my candidates in the FontFront Letters section.) I created several drafts for the game, one of them being a photo of a bridge’s corridor in Budapest, that reminds everyone the letter “K” (hence its name, the “K-Bridge”). Though I finally discarded this concept for the task (favoring instead a generative drawing), I started to play with the idea finding objects—mostly in Budapest—that look like letters, numbers and punctuation. Slowly this habit developed into a series of posters, *The Signed Nature*, each having a bonus typographic quotation—having nothing to do with the image, but looking sufficient for the purpose—set with the beautiful *Amor Serif* of *František Štorm*. The images underwent a massive image processing workflow including color conversion, sharpening and masking, to emphasize the object itself with a pinhole-like effect.
