1st of May
Weeks before 1st May 2012, weekly periodical “Vasárnapi Hírek” (News on Sunday) announced a contest to illustrate the event in one of their articles. My candidate was this work featuring a Hungarian idiom “Ugyanaz a lemez” (The same old story). The pun is untranslatable, since the phrase means literally “The same old disk” in English, that’s where the main theme of the illustration came from. The vinyl features the silhouette of the labour movement’s well known figure surrounded by the date and the subtitle below showing the quote, set with Richard William Mueller’s Uncle Bob MF, which is a vague reminiscence of the typeface used on posters all around the “official state holidays” of the Eastern block in the sixties and seventies.
