The Old Man and the Sea
This was one of my entrance exam works for the Typography Classes of the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design. I definitely wanted to create at least one book design. The result was this fictional cover for one of Ernest Hemingway's most famous novels. Though I have created the front illustration again with the aid of Flash, the vector output—due to the massive masking techniques—couldn’t be rendered to PDF in its original form. Finally—years later—I managed to present the image shown here in its originally intended, enhanced version. The chosen typeface reflects the “modern”, op-art-style cover’s era of the mid sixties: the Helvetica family emphasizes the clean, minimalistic design—though its renewed, “Neue” (New) version is used here from 1983.
